Going from long to short hair

It takes a really bold decision to switch hair styles, and the reaction is likely to depend on just how big the difference will be. Many women opt to go from long hair to short, but it must be said that it takes some guts, especially considering the time it will take for the hair to grow back.

If you’ve been growing you hair for a long time and you fancy a change, then perhaps it’s a good idea not to go too short. This is because you may find that you hate your new style, and you’re then going to dislike the style for months and months.

If you begin by cutting your hair down a little and a little, then you may find the transition a little easier to take. The switch to short hair is not exactly uncommon, but you don’t want to find that you dislike it so consider a big change such as this one carefully because your hair will take a while to grow back if you make the wrong decision!

Argan Oil for your Hair

Do you suffer from embarrassing dandruff? Are you sick of using shampoos for the condition that do not work or is your dead hair making you nervous to even style it? Then bring back and maintain shiny soft hair! The key ingredient you should look for when browsing hair products is argan oil. It’s no secret that hair products that contain this popular Moroccan oil does wonders! After shampooing and conditioning, apply a generous amount of oil onto your hair and scalp (this will also help you with an itchy or dry scalp), followed by gently massaging your scalp. But be careful not to put too much, you don’t want to walk around looking like a grease ball. If you want to prevent your hair frizzing, you can apply a few drops as well after it is dry. This specific beauty treatment has proven very effective in the past, causing more companies with their hair products to contain argan oil just for the appeal.

The Ombre Hair Style

More women are opting for a different style this year, and it’s known as the Ombre hair style. It’s a form of dip-dyeing, therefore making your hair two toned, or occasionally with several colours.

The Ombre style involves lighter colours at the bottom of the hair and  the darker more natural colours at the top. The Ombre look is usually only sported on a female with long heir, perhaps down to the shoulders, allowing for more of a fade between the two colours.

Bold colours are recently being used in this Ombre style, and it celebrities such as Jaime King have flaunted blue dip dye.

More and more people have opted for the Ombre style, and there are no signs that it is going away anytime soon. So if you’re looking for a fresh look and you want to keep up with the latest hair trends, then get the Ombre hair style, just make sure you choose your dip dye colour wisely. You may wish to start off with a subtle colour to see if you like it before moving on to any of the more vibrant colours. Good luck!

Dip Dye Your Hair

  1. You first need to decide if you’re going to bleach your hair. You’ll need to bleach your hair first, especially if you already have dark hair and want a more vibrant colour. I
  2. Put a hair band on your hair a few centimetres above the area where you want the dip dye colour to start and begin applying the bleach with a tint brush. If you fan your hair out and do a small strand at a time you’ll get more even coverage, also try and feather where the bleach stops a little if you don’t want a straight line, this will make it look more professional.
  3. Wash out the bleach and shampoo but make sure that you DON’T condition your hair. If you do condition then it may prevent the dye from sticking.
  4. Blow dry your hair and once it’s dry you can add the dye. Put a hair band on your hair just above the area you wish to dye. Using a tint brush, apply the dye everywhere that the bleach has lightened. It’s best to go a little bit over the line and get some dye on the unbleached hair just to make sure the colour blends in.
  5. Leave the dye on for the recommended amount of time and then rinse , shampoo and condition.
  6. Blow dry for a perfect finish.

Highlight and Contouring

Before beginning your highlighting and contouring, you must first determine your face shape.  Faces can be oval, rectangular, round, heart-shaped, oblong, diamond-shaped, or triangular (including inverted triangular).  To determine your face shape,  pull all of your hair back tightly and examine your face in the mirror, looking for the following attributes.  A measuring tape may be used to measure the length and width of the face for a more precise determination.

OVAL: Oval-shaped faces have a length equal to 1.5 times the width of the face, with forehead and jaw equal widths.

RECTANGULAR: Rectangular faces are 1/3 longer than the width of the face and have strong angles on the forehead and at the jawline.

ROUND: Round faces are as wide as they are long, but with soft, rounded edges.

HEART-SHAPED: Heart-shaped faces have the most width at the cheek, eye, and forehead areas, with a narrow to pointy chin.  Sometimes they will also have a high forehead.

OBLONG: Oblong faces are as long as it is wide.  Straight sides, a high forehead, and larger than average distance between the bottom of the lip and the tip of the chin are common attributes of the oblong face.

DIAMOND-SHAPED: Diamond-shaped faces are characterized by a narrow forehead and a narrow chin with the widest point at the cheeks.

TRIANGULAR (and INVERTED TRIANGULAR): Triangular faces are wide at the forehead and narrowest at the jawline; inverted triangular faces are widest at the jawline and narrowest at the forehead.Determining your face shape will help you decide where to place your highlights and contours and what features you’d like to define or downplay.
